VETS CAFE Veterans Entrepreneurial Training and Studies in Conservation Agriculture, Forestry and Ecology Winter Weekends Permaculture Design Course, JAN 19-20, FEB 9-10, *15-16, 23-24, MAR 2-3, *8-9, 16-17, *23, 30-31 *optional weekends COURSE FILLED Facilitated by Deston Denniston. Guests include Jim Freed, WSU Extension WSU Special Forest Products Agent, Thomas Allen, Independent Energy Systems Consultant and Designer, Joseph Becker, Builder and Designer in cob, strawbale and earthen plasters, Nate Waldren, DOD forester at JBLM, Kelda Miller, regional permaculture teacher and activist, Sarah Wilcox, Farmlink Program Director with Cascade Harvest Coalition, Enterprise for Equity, a business training and development NGO delivering development services to fledgling entreprenuers, and others local pros who want to serve veterans and our allies as we build a vibrant local ecology and economy. We will design and begin to build a 2.5ac farm in NE Olympia. All are welcome to register; worktrade and veteran's scholarships are available. We will engage in site surveys which inform a design methodology that drives the development of an organic farm capable of delivering $20k+ per acre annually. Participants will learn integral knowledge of design, environmental & ecological survey, and planning methodologies, including how to plan ecosystems succession. Covering everything from the soil up, including soil health and nutritions, propagation and planting, integrated pest management, domestic animals and wildlife as incorporated into production gardens and small food forests. In addition to developing personal, ecological, and pattern literacy skills, course particpants will also develop professional networks and explore entrepreneurship options.
