Columbia West Permaculture Institute (CWPI) is the proposed Not for Profit root of Abundance Consulting. We call it a root since it will be a grounded source of nutrition and raw energy for the development of our For-Profit activities. CWPI seeks to develop human ecologies which achieve benign balance within 'native' ecologies. Generally speaking, Columbia West refers to the ecological associations found seaward of the Hood and White Salmon River Watersheds of the Columbia River. Thus, CWPI seeks to inform land use process and decision making for a vast area of western Washington and Oregon, including the White Salmon, Hood, Upper Willamette, Lewis, Kalama, Toutle, Coweeman, Cowlitz and other rivers of the Seaward reach of the Columbia River.

As a visible demonstration, CWPI cultivates the landscape at Abundance, the site where Abundance Consulting keeps its offices. This site includes demonstrations of Permaculture systems which integrate bio-dynamic polyculture perennial forests and natural building with 'green' infrastructures such as composting humanure, active solar electricity and passive solar water heating.

If a practice is not ecologically, culturally and economically sustainable, then the practice is not sustainable. CWPI is a proving ground for sustainable landscape and human domestic methodologies. Keen observation, resolved patience, and joyous determination are foundations to human success. CWPI doesnt count these as goals, but entry points.
